Almost everybody has that one class that they absolutely despise and need that little extra help to make it through alive. For many students with a knack for helping others out, this can lead to some easy cash on campus. Here at Simpson, there is a floor above the library dedicated solely to tutoring, and the college pays students to tutor. This isn’t limited to upper-classmen, though, as even a second-semester freshman could tutor in a class they took during the fall term. Simpson pays minimum wage to its student-tutors, but it’s often worth it as you are helping out some of your fellow students.
If tutoring college students isn’t your thing, you can always turn to middle/high school kids. There is no shortage of parents who want that push for little Johnny or Susie to land a private college scholarship. This can be less stressful than working with students your own age, and it will pay much, much more than minimum wage. All you would have to do is put up some fliers, place an ad in a local paper, or post on Craigslist to get started. Tutoring can be very flexible with your schedule and looks good on any scholarships or resumes of yours.
