This is my list of all the principles, both personally and financially, that I try my hardest to adhere to in order to move forward financially. Let me know if you agree/disagree with anything, or think I should add something…

 

 

Personal Principles: (in no particular order)

-Believe it can be done.

-Define your goals.

-Have discipline. Be able to avoid pressure from others.

-Realize this is a long-term commitment.

-Accept delayed gratification and use it as a motivator.

-Never stop learning.

-Never lose sight of the end.

 

 

Financial Principles: (again in no particular order)

-Passive Income is king.

-Save, save, save! (and keep it there).

-Be aware of your Latte factor.

-Make a budget and stick to it.

-All budgets must allow for some fun though!

-Pay yourself first.

-Utilize tax-advantaged accounts- IRAs, 401ks, etc.

-Have a sizable emergency fund.

-Learn how to invest.

-Build a portfolio around ETFs and/or mutual funds.

-Then add individual positions.

-Invest for the long-term.

-Don’t frown upon fixed income investments.

-Avoid debt as much as possible (especially credit card)

-Collect change! It all adds up.

-Go Green! -for the environment and your wallet.
